Privacy Policy

2. In short
Sky Above shows the sky above you: stars, planets, satellites and aircraft. Almost everything is calculated directly on your device. There are no user accounts, we store no data about you on our servers, and we do not share data for advertising or analytics. To load current data, however, the app contacts a few online services. What is transmitted is listed below.
Every request technically reveals your IP address and the time of the request to the service involved. Without it, no response could be sent back.
3. Location
With your permission, the app reads your location via the iOS/macOS location services. It is used to work out which stars, planets, satellites and aircraft are currently above you. This calculation happens on your device only.
- Nearby aircraft: To show aircraft around you, the app sends a location rounded to about 1 km to the service adsb.lol. This happens only while the sky or map is on screen and aircraft are enabled, roughly every 12 seconds. According to its operator, adsb.lol only keeps log files for less than 30 days (adsb.lol privacy notice).
- Place name and place search: To show the name of your location or to search for another place, the app uses Apple’s map services. The coordinates or your search term are sent to Apple (Apple Privacy Policy).
You can deny or revoke location access at any time in your device settings and enter your location manually in the app instead. The app keeps working fully.
Legal basis: your consent given via the location permission (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and the provision of the feature you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
4. Camera (AR mode)
In AR mode the app overlays the sky on the live camera image. The camera image is only shown on your device. It is never stored, recorded or transmitted. The camera is only used when you switch on AR mode and have granted access.
5. Motion and orientation sensors
So that the sky follows the direction you point your device, the app reads the compass, gyroscope and accelerometer. These values are processed on your device only and never transmitted.
6. Other data requests
The following requests contain no information about you other than the technical data mentioned in section 2 (IP address, time):

Legal basis: provision of the app’s features (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Some of these services are located in the USA; only your IP address is transmitted to them.
7. Storage on your device
The app stores its settings, your chosen location, the most recently loaded orbit data and cached map and image data locally on your device only. We have no access to it. Everything is removed when you delete the app.
8. Purchase through the App Store
Purchase and payment are handled by Apple. We receive no information from Apple that identifies you personally, only aggregated sales figures. Apple’s Privacy Policy applies.
9. Children
The app does not knowingly collect personal data from children and can be used without an account.
10. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future, for example by switching off location access. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). As we store no data about you ourselves, we usually cannot provide information about you personally. 11. This page
This page is served from our own server at fat-app.com. Your IP address is technically processed to deliver the page to you. The page sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads no third-party fonts or scripts.
12. Changes
We update this policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies.
